A values-first credit union with a well-built consent gate, a leak in it, and a branch visit waiting at the end of any data request.
How many clicks to find the privacy policy from the homepage?
Two clicks, through a clean hub. The footer link “Privacy” opens a page listing the Privacy Code, the Digital Privacy Charter, the cookies policy and a social media policy, with a marketing opt-out and a privacy complaint route beside them. The Code is the second click.
Is there a meaningful choice about cookies and tracking before data is collected?
No Reject all, but nothing is switched on either. “Allow all” is a solid black button and “Customize” is outlined beside it, opening four categories that all arrive switched off, so “Confirm my choices” refuses by default and declining takes two clicks. That default is what separates this from the banks whose missing button sits over categories that are all switched on. One blemish: two Convert A/B testing cookies are set before any consent is given, which cuts against the gate the rest of the build gets right.
How hard is the policy to read, how much of it is there, and can you get it in one piece?
Grade 14.2 across 5,806 words, in three documents. Difficulty 0, length 2, access 2. The Privacy Code alone runs Grade 14.7. The Digital Privacy Charter counts because it says so itself, opening with the line that it works “together with the Vancity Privacy Code” to explain how personal information is handled. Measure it yourself.
How many clicks to reach data settings, and can you delete your account yourself?
A named privacy office, and no form behind it. On accuracy the Code says that if information about you is wrong, “please contact us as described in the Contact Us section below”, and that section is mail, a branch, or the Privacy Office at 604-877-8479. The page headed “Report an incident” turns out to handle fraud and security rather than privacy, and carries no form fields at all.
Find the support page. How many clicks, and is there a way to speak to a human?
A human in one click. “Contact us” from the footer lists eight numbers including Member Services at 604-877-7000, a Victoria line and a toll-free line. No login.

Vancity is the institution in this set whose brand rests hardest on doing finance differently, and it lands mid-table, level with Tangerine and below three of the Big Five. The consent gate is genuinely well built and then leaks an A/B testing cookie straight through it. The privacy documents are the second-hardest reading measured here. And a member who wants their own information corrected is told to visit a branch. Being a cooperative did not produce Desjardins’ score. Building the form did.
