A working consent banner nobody would find in the page source, in front of a policy that asks you to type REMOVE REGISTRANT into a subject line.

Transparency, Consent, Clarity, Control, Empathy · clockwise from the top
01
Transparency 4 / 4

How many clicks to find the privacy policy from the homepage?

One click, from the footer. “Privacy Statement” opens as a web page. No last-updated date appears on it, and the policy is written in the name of Grafton Apparel Ltd. rather than Tip Top.

02
Consent 3 / 4

Is there a meaningful choice about cookies and tracking before data is collected?

A real banner, hidden from the page source. “Preferences” is outlined and “Accept” is solid beside it, the same arrangement RBC and TD use, and behind Preferences sit four cookie categories that all arrive switched on. The banner renders inside a shadow root, so it is invisible to anything reading the document the ordinary way and visible to every actual shopper. Thirty-seven cookies are set before it is answered, and the policy separately tells you to block cookies through your browser, which the banner makes unnecessary.

03
Clarity 2 / 4

How hard is the policy to read, how much of it is there, and can you get it in one piece?

Grade 15.7 across 3,457 words, in one place. Difficulty 0, length 3, access 4. The second-hardest prose in the index, behind The Body Shop, and harder than any bank, insurer or telecom in it. Sections of it are set in block capitals, which the reading measures do not penalize and a reader certainly does. Measure it yourself.

04
Control 1 / 4

How many clicks to reach data settings, and can you delete your account yourself?

A privacy officer who is the general support address. The policy names a Privacy Officer and routes them through supportTT@tiptop.ca. Deletion is by written request, and the policy asks that the words REMOVE REGISTRANT be typed into the subject line, which is the most literal example in the index of a data right shaped around the company’s filing system rather than the person exercising it.

05
Empathy 4 / 4

Find the support page. How many clicks, and is there a way to speak to a human?

A phone number and an address, one click away. “Contact Us” in the footer carries 1-800-465-1244 and supportTT@tiptop.ca.

Overall finding

14 out of 20 Trust-aware

Tip Top runs a proper consent banner with category control behind it, and then publishes a policy at grade 15.7 in the name of a holding company most shoppers have never heard of, which still tells them to reconfigure their browser and asks them to format an email subject line correctly in order to be forgotten. The gate is in better shape than the document standing behind it.
