14 out of 20 Trust-aware

The most readable policy in the index, behind a cookie banner that offers no way to say no.

Transparency, Consent, Clarity, Control, Empathy · clockwise from the top
01
Transparency 4 / 4

How many clicks to find the privacy policy from the homepage?

One click, from the footer. The privacy policy is visible on the homepage footer and opens directly.

02
Consent 1 / 4

Is there a meaningful choice about cookies and tracking before data is collected?

A banner with no decline. It appears, and it offers a close button and a vendor list. There is no accept and no reject, which means the only options are to dismiss it or to read a list of the companies involved. A banner that cannot be refused is a notice, not a choice.

03
Clarity 3 / 4

How hard is the policy to read, how much of it is there, and can you get it in one piece?

Grade 10.4 across 6,629 words, in one place. Difficulty 3, length 2, access 4. The easiest prose of any policy measured here, and the reason Spotify holds a Clarity of 3 despite a long document. Measure it yourself.

04
Control 3 / 4

How many clicks to reach data settings, and can you delete your account yourself?

Four clicks, behind a login. Privacy controls are reachable and reasonably complete, but a logged-out visitor cannot get to them and no guest alternative is offered. Login-gated controls with no guest route cap at 3 however good the tools are once you are inside.

05
Empathy 3 / 4

Find the support page. How many clicks, and is there a way to speak to a human?

Support in one click, a human in two, after signing in. The route to a person exists and is not hidden, but it requires an account to start, so it is closed to anyone who has not yet signed up.

Overall finding

14 out of 20 Trust-aware

Spotify publishes the clearest privacy writing measured for this index and pairs it with the weakest consent mechanism outside the two platforms that have none at all. Being easy to read about is not the same as being easy to refuse.

Revised 6 August 2026

Scored 14 and Trust-aware until 6 August 2026. Clarity was remeasured with the published tool and moved from 4 to 3, taking the total to 13 and moving Spotify into Compliance-bound. The prose is genuinely the most readable in the index; the change reflects length, which the original grade-only measure did not count.
