A 1,123-word page whose job is to tell you the real privacy policy is on another website.
How many clicks to find the privacy policy from the homepage?
Two clicks, and the second one leaves. The footer opens a short SportChek privacy page which explains that FGL Sports Ltd. is a subsidiary of Canadian Tire Corporation and adheres to Canadian Tire’s Privacy Charter, then links to it. SportChek publishes no privacy policy of its own.
Is there a meaningful choice about cookies and tracking before data is collected?
The parent’s consent setup, unchanged. OneTrust loaded, no banner shown, a Cookie Settings link in the footer, and eight tracking identifiers on arrival. Identical to canadiantire.ca, because it is the same platform, down to the geography: the configuration carries a rule named “ROC” for the rest of Canada with the banner off, and a “Quebec Law 25 Audience” with it on.
How hard is the policy to read, how much of it is there, and can you get it in one piece?
Grade 13.5 across 8,881 words, on another domain. Difficulty 1, length 1, access 2. Measured on Canadian Tire’s policy, because that is the operative document, and it carries the same problem: it is a collapsed section of a combined policies page rather than a document. SportChek’s own bridging page adds 1,123 words that describe the arrangement without describing the practices. Measure it yourself.
How many clicks to reach data settings, and can you delete your account yourself?
The parent’s privacy office. privacyoffice@cantire.com. Nothing on sportchek.ca handles a privacy request.
Find the support page. How many clicks, and is there a way to speak to a human?
A phone number, one click away. Contact Us carries 1-877-977-2435.
Overall finding
12 out of 20 Compliance-bound
SportChek scores a point below Canadian Tire for the honest reason that its customers have further to go for the same document. The bridging page is a sensible thing to publish and it is not a privacy policy; it is a note saying where one lives. Everything a SportChek shopper actually needs is on a different company’s website, inside an accordion.
