A challenger bank with no privacy policy of its own. To read the one that governs you, you have to leave.
How many clicks to find the privacy policy from the homepage?
Four clicks, and it leaves the domain. The footer link “Legal and Privacy” reaches a Simplii page carrying highlights of the CIBC policy, and the policy itself is three further clicks away on cibc.com: Privacy and Security, then Privacy Policies, then Canada. Highlights are not the policy, and the document you arrive at never mentions Simplii by name.
Is there a meaningful choice about cookies and tracking before data is collected?
CIBC’s consent mechanism, inherited whole. Simplii’s own Digital Data Collection Policy describes a banner, category-level preferences that can be managed “regardless of whether you’re logged in”, and a settings link in the footer of every page. It is the same platform CIBC runs, and it carries the same flaw: the notice treats continuing to browse, or leaving, as agreement.
How hard is the policy to read, how much of it is there, and can you get it in one piece?
Clarity is CIBC’s, because the policy is CIBC’s. Simplii Financial is a division of CIBC and its handling of personal information is governed by the CIBC privacy policy, so the document measured is that one: Grade 12.8 across 11,437 words. Measured as a Simplii customer actually meets it, CIBC’s policy plus Simplii’s own 2,596-word data collection policy, it comes to 11,433 words at Grade 13.0 and scores the same. Measure it yourself.
How many clicks to reach data settings, and can you delete your account yourself?
Phone, TTY, or post. “Contact us through any one of the options listed under the ‘Need to contact us?’ section to exercise your privacy choices or request access to your information.” Those options are a general customer line, a TTY line and a mailing address. Simplii’s agreements name online banking constantly for disputes, statements and electronic consent, and never once for a privacy right.
Find the support page. How many clicks, and is there a way to speak to a human?
A human without clicking anything. 1-888-723-8881 is printed on the homepage, with a TTY line at 1-888-632-9022 and a Contact Us page beside it. Its best dimension by a distance, and the one place it beats its parent on placement.
Overall finding
9 out of 20 Compliance-bound
Simplii holds the lowest score in the index alongside TikTok, and it got there by being a brand rather than an institution. Someone who chose it over a Big Five bank precisely because it is not one has, in privacy terms, chosen CIBC, and has to leave simplii.com entirely and work three clicks down another company’s website to find that out. The one thing it does better than its parent is put a phone number on the front page.
