The best-written consent banner in the index, in front of trackers that were already running when it appeared.
How many clicks to find the privacy policy from the homepage?
One click, from the footer. The privacy policy opens as a web page and carries “Last updated: December, 2025” at the top.
Is there a meaningful choice about cookies and tracking before data is collected?
Two identical buttons, and a promise beside them. The banner is a modal rather than a strip, with “Customize” and “Accept” in the same green fill at the same size. It is the only banner in the index that tells you refusing costs you nothing: “Regardless of what you choose, you will always have access to our websites.” Behind Customize, each category carries its own Refuse and Accept pair, with Refuse listed first. What holds it at 3 is that there is no single-click refusal on the banner itself, so declining everything takes three clicks where agreeing takes one. Worth noting against the wording: Google Analytics and a Reddit identifier are already set when the permission is asked for.
How hard is the policy to read, how much of it is there, and can you get it in one piece?
Grade 12.5 across 2,710 words, in one place. Difficulty 2, length 4, access 4. Short, and the most readable policy in the apparel set by a clear margin. Measure it yourself.
How many clicks to reach data settings, and can you delete your account yourself?
A privacy address, and nothing self-serve. privacy@simons.ca is named in the policy. There is no request form and no deletion route a shopper can complete without writing in.
Find the support page. How many clicks, and is there a way to speak to a human?
A phone number, two clicks away. Customer Service publishes 1-877-666-1840. No chat and no published support address, which for a retailer this size is a thinner set of options than the phone number suggests.
Overall finding

Simons writes about consent better than anyone else in the index, and the writing is doing more work than the configuration. A banner that promises permission first, on a page that has already set Google Analytics and a Reddit identifier, is describing an intention rather than a state. The intention is real and the per-category Refuse buttons are real; one change to the load order would make the sentence true.
