A privacy centre that lets a stranger delete their data in two clicks, in front of a homepage that never asks before it starts tracking.
How many clicks to find the privacy policy from the homepage?
One click, from the homepage footer. “Privacy Policy” goes straight to the document, which opens as a navigable web page. “Your Privacy Choices” sits beside it in the same footer, going to a separate privacy centre. Both are one click and both are labelled for what they are.
Is there a meaningful choice about cookies and tracking before data is collected?
No banner, and the tracking is already running. Nothing appears on first load, and Google Analytics, Google Ads and the Meta advertising pixel are set before any interaction. The site does not explain the absence. What keeps this off the floor is that the opt-out is genuinely one click away in the footer rather than buried in a help article, which is more than Apple or Facebook offer.
How hard is the policy to read, how much of it is there, and can you get it in one piece?
Grade 12.3 across 3,576 words, in one place. Difficulty 2, length 3, access 4. One document, one click, opening as a web page with no PDF and nothing to assemble, and short enough that a determined person would finish it. The best Clarity score of any company in the index outside Gander. Measure it yourself.
How many clicks to reach data settings, and can you delete your account yourself?
Erase, access, or exclude — from a public page, with no account. The privacy centre offers three actions: limit the use of your data for ads, erase personal data Shopify holds about you, and request a copy of it. Two clicks from the homepage, no login, and the form asks which kind of person you are, including “customer of a Shopify merchant”. Someone who has never had a Shopify account and only ever bought something from a store running on it can still file a request. Only Desjardins matches this in the index.
Find the support page. How many clicks, and is there a way to speak to a human?
A human, once you have an account. “Chat with a human” is offered plainly at the top of the Help Center, one click away, and clicking it returns “Log in to chat with us”. The route to a person is real and not hidden; it is closed to anyone who has not signed up. No phone number is published.

Shopify is the sharpest split in the index. It has built the second-best set of privacy controls anyone here offers, deliberately reaching past its own customers to the shoppers who never chose it, and it publishes the clearest privacy writing of any large company measured. Then its homepage sets an advertising pixel before saying a word. The company clearly has people who think carefully about this. They appear not to have been consulted about the front page.
