Thirteen tracking identifiers, no banner, and no mention anywhere of how to refuse them.
How many clicks to find the privacy policy from the homepage?
One click, from the footer. The policy sits on the Roots help centre rather than the store, and opens as a web page. There is no last-updated date on it.
Is there a meaningful choice about cookies and tracking before data is collected?
No banner, and no route described anywhere. Nothing appears on a first load. Forty cookies are set, thirteen of them tracking identifiers belonging to Google Analytics, Google Ads, Meta, Reddit, Pinterest, TikTok and Microsoft. The policy does not describe a cookie opt-out at all, not through a preference centre and not through browser settings, so the only way to withdraw is to write to the company.
How hard is the policy to read, how much of it is there, and can you get it in one piece?
Grade 13.2 across 2,709 words, in one place. Difficulty 1, length 4, access 4. Measure it yourself.
How many clicks to reach data settings, and can you delete your account yourself?
A privacy address, and nothing self-serve. privacy@roots.com is named in the policy.
Find the support page. How many clicks, and is there a way to speak to a human?
A help centre with phone numbers on it. One click from the footer, and the contact section publishes several lines including 1-800-208-0521, with staffed hours listed beside them.
Overall finding

Roots is the cleanest example in this batch of a common pattern: a company that is easy to reach, publishes a readable policy, and quietly runs seven advertising networks on the homepage with no mechanism of any kind to decline them. Nothing here is hidden in the sense of being denied. It is simply never raised.
