Reitmans
Retail · reitmans.com

The only retailer measured here that sets no tracking cookie at all before you answer its banner, attached to the oldest privacy policy in the index.
How many clicks to find the privacy policy from the homepage?
One click, from the footer. Opens as a web page. The document is dated, and the date is the problem: 16 May 2023, which makes it the oldest privacy policy in the index. It also covers reitmans.com, penningtons.com and rw-co.com in one document.
Is there a meaningful choice about cookies and tracking before data is collected?
A real choice, and it actually holds. “Accept all Cookies” is a solid black button and “Manage my Preferences” is outlined beside it, the same arrangement RBC and TD use. The difference is what happens underneath. On a first load Reitmans sets five cookies and not one of them is a tracker: no Google Analytics, no Meta, no TikTok, despite all of those tags being present on the page and waiting. Every other no-banner or weak-banner retailer in this set had already collected. This is the strongest 3 in the index, and it misses a 4 only because declining sits a step behind agreeing.
How hard is the policy to read, how much of it is there, and can you get it in one piece?
Grade 14.7 across 6,202 words, in one place. Difficulty 0, length 2, access 4. Hard prose and a long document, which is what pulls the total down. Measure it yourself.
How many clicks to reach data settings, and can you delete your account yourself?
A privacy address, and nothing self-serve. privacy@reitmans.com is published in the policy, with a phone line beside it. No request form exists.
Find the support page. How many clicks, and is there a way to speak to a human?
A phone number, two clicks away. The Help Centre in the footer leads to Contact Us, which carries 1-866-734-8626 with staffed hours.
Overall finding

Reitmans is the most interesting result in the retail set, because the thing it does best is invisible. Its banner looks exactly like a bank’s, and unlike the banks it is telling the truth: nothing is tracking you while you decide. That is the whole point of a consent gate and almost nobody here implements it. Then the policy behind it was last revised in May 2023 and reads at grade 14.7, which is the gap between having the right machinery and maintaining it.
