13 out of 20 Compliance-bound

A cookie policy that describes the checkboxes you may use to refuse, on a page that renders no checkboxes at all.

Transparency, Consent, Clarity, Control, Empathy · clockwise from the top
01
Transparency 4 / 4

How many clicks to find the privacy policy from the homepage?

One click, from the footer. “Privacy Policy” opens as a web page, with a separate cookie policy linked beside it.

02
Consent 1 / 4

Is there a meaningful choice about cookies and tracking before data is collected?

No banner, and a control that is described but not built. The consent app is installed, and it renders nothing here. The cookie policy names four categories and tells you, in as many words, that you may accept or reject them “using the check box provided”. The page contains no check box, no toggle and no button; the document simply ends after describing them. No fallback is offered, not even browser settings. Thirty-six cookies are set on arrival, advertising identifiers among them.

03
Clarity 3 / 4

How hard is the policy to read, how much of it is there, and can you get it in one piece?

Grade 12.1 across 5,629 words, in one place. Difficulty 2, length 2, access 4. The most readable policy in this batch, and the only one to earn a 2 on difficulty. Measure it yourself.

04
Control 1 / 4

How many clicks to reach data settings, and can you delete your account yourself?

Rights by email, to the general address. The policy sets out the full set of rights, including erasure and withdrawal of consent, then routes all of them to the contact details in its last section, which resolve to hello@patternbeauty.com. There is no form and no privacy-specific address.

05
Empathy 4 / 4

Find the support page. How many clicks, and is there a way to speak to a human?

A phone number with hours, one click from the footer. The contact page publishes (833) 99-CURLS, Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 5pm Pacific, with a message form beside it.

Overall finding

13 out of 20 Compliance-bound

PATTERN writes the most readable privacy policy in this batch and then fails the one test that is not about writing. Its cookie policy describes, in the present tense, a set of check boxes that do not exist on the page, and offers nothing else in their place. That is worse than staying silent, because a reader who takes the document at its word will believe they have refused something. It is the second brand in this batch to publish a control it has not built, after Olaplex, and the two failures look nothing alike from the outside: one is a dead link, the other is a paragraph describing furniture that was never delivered.
