The shop where Meta sells cameras you wear on your face, and the only storefront here that starts advertising to you before it says anything at all.
How many clicks to find the privacy policy from the homepage?
One click, from the homepage footer. “Privacy Policy” opens the Meta Privacy Policy as a navigable page dated “Effective July 23, 2026”. Worth noting the oddity beside it: the footer carries two links both labelled privacy policy, pointing at two different documents on two different domains.
Is there a meaningful choice about cookies and tracking before data is collected?
No banner, no notice, and the pixel is already running. Meta’s own advertising cookies are set on first load, and after several seconds there is no dialog, no consent control, and no AdChoices, cookie-settings or privacy-choices link anywhere in the footer. The only route to a control is the cookie policy, which sends you to your account or your browser. This is worse than Facebook, which at least offers an ad opt-out once you have signed in.
How hard is the policy to read, how much of it is there, and can you get it in one piece?
Grade 12.2 across 21,960 words, in two documents on two domains. Difficulty 2, length 0, access 2. The Meta Privacy Policy runs 15,000 words on facebook.com and the Supplemental Meta Platforms Technologies Privacy Policy, which covers the headsets and glasses, adds 6,960 on meta.com. It is the largest body of privacy documentation measured anywhere in this index. Measure it yourself.
How many clicks to reach data settings, and can you delete your account yourself?
Behind a Meta Account, with no guest route. Data controls live in account settings and meta.com/account is a page describing the login rather than the controls. Login-gated tools with no guest alternative cap here regardless of how good they are once you are inside.
Find the support page. How many clicks, and is there a way to speak to a human?
A help centre and no way through it. The Meta Help Center is one click from the top navigation and is a search box over articles. No phone, no chat, no email, and no contact page: /help/contact returns a 404.
Overall finding
11 out of 20 Compliance-bound
This is the company’s own shop, where it sells cameras you wear on your face, and it asks for less consent than the social network does. An advertising pixel fires before a word is said, there is no banner to dismiss and nothing to decline, and every question routes to a search box. Facebook at least has an opt-out to bury. Scored on meta.com rather than facebook.com, which are different products with different front doors, and the difference is the finding.
