One of the few retailers whose consent banner is telling the truth: nothing tracks you until you answer it.
How many clicks to find the privacy policy from the homepage?
One click, from the footer. Opens as a web page, last updated 30 May 2025.
Is there a meaningful choice about cookies and tracking before data is collected?
Reject Non-Essential, and it means it. Two buttons on the banner, “Reject Non-Essential” and “Accept”, so refusing is one click at the same level as agreeing, with a persistent “Manage Cookie Consent” link in the footer to change your mind later. What separates it from most of this index is measurable: on a first load Home Hardware sets eleven cookies and not one of them is a tracker. It holds at 3 only because there is no category control, the same reason Wealthsimple does.
How hard is the policy to read, how much of it is there, and can you get it in one piece?
Grade 13.3 across 3,041 words, in one place. Difficulty 1, length 3, access 4. Middling prose at a manageable length. Measure it yourself.
How many clicks to reach data settings, and can you delete your account yourself?
A privacy address, and nothing self-serve. privacy@homehardware.ca is published in the policy. There is no request form.
Find the support page. How many clicks, and is there a way to speak to a human?
A phone number, one click away. Contact Us carries 1-877-940-5081, alongside an FAQ hub.
Overall finding
16 out of 20 Trust-aware
Home Hardware is a dealer-owned hardware chain and it runs one of the honest consent gates in this index: a one-click refusal, a way back in through the footer, and nothing collected while you decide. Reitmans and RW&CO are the only other retailers here that can say the last part. It costs a point for having no category control and another for having no request form, and neither gap is about money.
