A privacy policy that arrives as a PDF two clicks down, behind a banner that offers to store cooking on your device.

Transparency, Consent, Clarity, Control, Empathy · clockwise from the top
01
Transparency 3 / 4

How many clicks to find the privacy policy from the homepage?

Two clicks, and it is a PDF. The footer leads to Legal Matters, and Legal Matters offers the privacy policy as a downloadable PDF rather than a web page. Two clicks would otherwise score 3; the PDF caps it there regardless. The file itself is clean and dated 19 February 2025.

02
Consent 3 / 4

Is there a meaningful choice about cookies and tracking before data is collected?

Custom Settings, as a text link. “Accept All Cookies” is a solid green button and “Custom Settings” is an underlined text link beside it, with category control behind it. The banner is also the only one in the index with a typo in the consent language: it offers to store “cooking” on your device.

03
Clarity 2 / 4

How hard is the policy to read, how much of it is there, and can you get it in one piece?

Grade 13.9 across 3,977 words, in a single PDF. Difficulty 1, length 3, access 3. Access is 3 rather than 4 because it holds together as one document but arrives as a file. Measure it yourself.

04
Control 2 / 4

How many clicks to reach data settings, and can you delete your account yourself?

A privacy address in the PDF. privacy@dollarama.com is published, separately from the general client address. There is no request form and no self-serve route.

05
Empathy 4 / 4

Find the support page. How many clicks, and is there a way to speak to a human?

A contact page and a published address. client@dollarama.com and an enquiry form, one click from the footer. No phone line is published.

Overall finding

14 out of 20 Trust-aware

Dollarama is the only brand in the retail set whose privacy policy is not a web page. A PDF is not hostile, it is dated and complete and reads no worse than its peers, but it cannot be searched from the page, cannot be linked to a section, and on a phone it is a download rather than something you read. The typo in the consent banner is a small thing that says something larger about how closely anyone has looked at this.
