Crave

Streaming · crave.ca

14 out of 20 Trust-aware

The only streaming service here that will talk to you, and its privacy policy belongs to a phone company.

Transparency, Consent, Clarity, Control, Empathy · clockwise from the top
01
Transparency 3 / 4

How many clicks to find the privacy policy from the homepage?

Two clicks, and it leaves the site. “Privacy Policy” in the Crave footer redirects to bell.ca. Crave publishes no privacy policy of its own, because Crave is Bell Media, and the operative document is Bell’s six-page PDF one click further on. A PDF caps Transparency at 3 regardless of click count.

02
Consent 3 / 4

Is there a meaningful choice about cookies and tracking before data is collected?

Cookies Settings, in plain text, beside a solid button. “Accept All Cookies” is a filled button and “Cookies Settings” is a text link, with OneTrust category control behind it. The same arrangement Bell uses, which is not a coincidence. Ten tracking identifiers, among them Meta, TikTok, Reddit, Pinterest and Microsoft, are set before the banner is answered.

03
Clarity 2 / 4

How hard is the policy to read, how much of it is there, and can you get it in one piece?

Grade 12.8 across 4,169 words, in two pieces. Difficulty 1, length 3, access 2. Measured on Bell’s documents, because those are the ones Crave sends you to: the Privacy Policy PDF runs 1,821 words at Grade 14.4 and the “How we collect and use data” page adds 2,348 at Grade 12.1, and they have to be read together. Measure it yourself.

04
Control 2 / 4

How many clicks to reach data settings, and can you delete your account yourself?

A privacy address at the parent. privacy@bell.ca, on Bell’s commitment to privacy page. Nothing self-serve exists for a Crave subscriber, and nothing on crave.ca addresses privacy requests at all.

05
Empathy 4 / 4

Find the support page. How many clicks, and is there a way to speak to a human?

Live chat with published hours. Contact Us, one click from the footer, offers chat seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern, and says plainly that call volumes are high rather than hiding the phone route. The only streaming service in this index that offers a person without an account.

Overall finding

14 out of 20 Trust-aware

Crave inherits Bell’s privacy record wholesale, which costs it on Transparency and Clarity, and it inherits Bell’s call centre too, which is the one thing that makes it the most reachable streaming service here. The comparison worth making is with Netflix and Disney+, who write their own policies and will not speak to you. Being owned by a telecom turns out to be good for one dimension and bad for two.
